Reinstate the Queer Political Action Collective
Bring Back QPAC!
The Queer Political Action Collective (QPAC) acted as a key on-campus organising body for student activism concerning Queer issues. It has not had an active presence in many years. Together, we will bring back QPAC as a regular recurring collective amongst other Queer department collectives, giving all Queer students opportunity to directly engage with the department in discussions regarding advocacy within UMSU and the University, as well providing space for Queer students to collectively mobilise action to address Queer concerns in local areas and beyond.
Why this matters
We are living in a political climate that is becoming increasingly conservative and frequently and publicly inflicting violence and abuse towards Queer – especially Trans – people. We also recognise a lack of acknowledgement from many of UMSU’s elected representatives on our diverse Queer cohort’s needs and requests: QPAC acts to assist that dialogue.
How we implement it
QPAC would return amongst the other Queer collectives as regular and recurrent, occurring on campus to discuss Queer student’s political concerns and action strategies as a collective to address them accordingly. It would be advertised alongside the other collectives to ensure maximum visibility so that all Queer students know that their voice is valued and can be heard.
