Bad landlord registry
Registry of local landlords for students to check over before they enter a lease.
Many students, especially international and exchange students, find themselves being taken advantage of by landlords, it is their Union’s responsibility to step in and help them. We plan to centralise and aggregate opinions and experiences of different landlords and accommodation of Unimelb students. Similar to the Purple Pingers ShitRentals website people could report their issues.
Why this matters
Bad landlords threaten student well-being and while individual students lack the power to take them, on the Union can.
How we implement it
We will provide surveys to all students and develop an accessible website for everyone to access this information. Then we will create statistics from the gathered information and investigate patterns. We will also link people to support from UMSU legal and all the necessary information on rights of tenants.
