Ensure clubs are a safe space for everyone

Though we currently have Bystander training to ensure that clubs are a safe space, clubs are currently limited both by a lack of information and ability to take action in the event that an incident occurs.

Why this matters

It is vital that clubs remain a safe space for all students

How we implement it

Together will: Ensure that greater training is accessible for club committees so as to cover more specific scenarios, as current bystander training measures do not provide enough information on what can be done if an incident occurs. Promotion of the Speak Safely portal and the sexual harms coordinator as points of contact which can help in providing support for incidents. The process of reporting an incident can be difficult, and it can additionally be difficult to bar a member in the event that a report is received, requiring the victim to speak at a public meeting. It is essential that we provide more solutions to this, allowing clubs to take action on reasonable concerns without placing pressure on a survivor. If a student is already barred from one club after substantial evidence is provided that they have posed a threat to club safety, it is vital that they cannot go on to harm clubs unaware of their history.
