Clubs and Societies

Over the course of 5 years, the Clubs and Societies Department’s budget has reduced from ~$325,000 to around ~$270,000 this year in student council. This means the initial allocated grant budget for each club has been reduced from around ~$3500 of UMSU’s yearly expenditure, to roughly $2000 in 2026. This can be explained by University’s increasing deficit and the need for UMSU to return a proportion of SSAF funding back to the University to mitigate the spending shortfall.

Anti-stacking measures to uphold the electoral integrity of clubs’ general meetings

Last year, there were multiple reported cases of student clubs being stacked (by non-members of clubs from politically-motivated groups by electing themselves into the committee for political gains, with implications including the club’s absence of activity and disengagement from its constitution. As a result, this leaves students with the loss of opportunity to be able to engage in these former clubs’ activities again.
